Year 1 Week 16

Date: 9th Jan 2020 @ 3:45pm

A Happy New Year to you all!

The children have settled down quickly after the Christmas break and are enjoying the start of our new topic "Changes".  They have been introduced to some pictures and photos showing details of children's lives in Victorian times in different social classes and have looked at some intriguing Victorian artefacts like a ceramic hot water bottle, chamber pot, slate and backboard (to make sure Victorian children stood up straight!).  In our maths lessons this week we have been learning more about adding and subtracting using different techniques like tens frames, number lines and bar models.  We have been starting to learn about David Hockney in Art and have been learning how he uses different media like iPads to make his pictures.

Homework this week is a spelling and sentence writing sheet looking at the words "her" and "out".  "Out" is one of the words the children need to learn to spell by heart but is often misspelt as "owt" - please help your child to learn to spell this correctly.

With best wishes from the Year One Team
