Welcome to our Year One blog.
We have had a lovely day today dressed in different colours to celebrate World Book Day. We read "The Day the Crayons Quit" in our classes, talked more about it in assembly and generally celebrated the enjoyment of reading. Earlier on in the week we practised our story writing in Literacy and have continued to learn and revise more phonemes (wh, ph and qu). In Maths we have been answering simple one step problems using addition and subtraction as well as continuing to learn our number bonds - at the moment we are looking at number bonds to 7 and 17. In Science we looked at how different materials can be changed by heat and we worked scientifically to see what happened when we held a crayon, an ice cube and a chocolate button in our hands. The squeals of excitement were ear piercing when we had to hold the ice cube and we really enjoyed the part with the chocolate button! In Art we have been learning about primary and secondary colours and are enjoying mixing paints.
Our homework this week is to look further at how materials around our house can be changed.
We hope you have a lovely weekend.
With best wishes
