Welcome to the Week 19 blog.
Class 8 and 9 enjoyed a fabulous trip to Sea Life Manchester this week. Thanks again to all the volunteer helpers. You have, hopefully, recovered by now! Unfortunately, due to weather conditions on the roads, Class 7's trip had to be postponed. This trip has now been rearranged for Monday 11th February. Volunteers from the last date have been contacted to check their availability. Unfortunately we were not able to get a Thursday for the rearranged date and we are aware that it may not be possible for all the original volunteers to help on a Monday. In this case, the class teacher will send a note out asking for a given number of helpers for the new date. It was such a shame that it had to be rearranged, but the safety of the children is obviously our top priority.
The phonics for next week are ow (as in now and down) and oi (as in boil and join). Most of the children have embedded the phonemes we have covered so far this term and they are beginning to use them in their writing!
Thank you to everyone who has returned the "parental contribution" (Knowledge of the World etc.) twice termly sheets. We have put extra copies of them all in the reception parent's area, inside Class 9's door, in case you need them. These sheets are a key element of our assessment of your child's experiences and achievements outside of school and, as such, form a vital part of our judgement against the national standards for the end of Reception in June. For example, this half term's technology sheet enables us to see what different types of technology your child experiences and recognises outside of school. This is obviously a much broader range than they are able to experience in school. These are, therefore, vital pieces of evidence that give us a more complete picture of your child and enable us to make more secure assessments. It's not too late to fill them in! If you have any questions about them, please see your class teacher.
The children are all hoping for more snow over the weekend! Whatever you are doing, stay safe and have fun.
